Corporate retreats in Iceland: a planner's guide

Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's most complete corporate retreat destinations: 15-20 minutes from Keflavík International Airport, with dedicated meeting spaces, bathing in the Blue Lagoon or The Retreat Spa and the private Retreat Lagoon, dining at Lava or Moss, and two on-site hotels for overnight stays.

A team can land in the morning, be in a workshop before lunch, in the water by mid-afternoon, and at dinner overlooking the lava field. No transfers between venues, no time lost to logistics.

A half-day: a sample retreat itinerary

A one-day corporate retreat at Blue Lagoon can hold a workshop, an afternoon in the water, and a seated dinner, and it can begin the moment your team clears arrivals at Keflavík international airport. Picture landing after a morning flight landing. Instead of an hour on a coach into the city, your group boards a transfer and travels only 21 km (13 miles) across moss-covered lava fields. Approximately twenty minutes later, they step out by the lagoon. Luggage goes into the dedicated storage by the parking lot, and the working day begins.

By late morning, the team is seated in Þorbjörn Hall, Blue Lagoon's dedicated meeting space, for a strategy session or workshop. Lunch comes from the in-house culinary team, nutritious and freshly-prepared. Then the part of the day no slide deck can compete with: an afternoon in 10,000 square meters (108,000 square feet) of milky-blue geothermal seawater, held at a comfortable 37°-40° C (99°-104° F) whatever the season. Some of the best thinking of the day happens here, with nobody taking notes.

The evening ends at the table. Lava Restaurant, built into the volcanic rock beside the water, seats larger groups for dishes built on Icelandic ingredients such as Arctic char and lamb. Moss Restaurant, the Michelin-starred dining room at The Retreat, offers a more composed setting and a tasting menu that turns dinner into the evening itself. From there, the group either continues to Reykjavík, roughly 45 minutes away, or walks to one of the two on-site hotels and stays the night.

That is one ideal day. No internal flights, no long coach transfers, no venue-hopping. In essence, the retreat starts working from the moment the plane lands.

Why choose Blue Lagoon for a corporate retreat?

The strongest argument for Blue Lagoon as a retreat venue is where it sits: 20 minutes from Keflavík International Airport, on the road between the airport and the capital.

Time spent reaching a venue often comes out of the workshop, the soak, or the dinner. Blue Lagoon removes that trade-off. The destination is the first thing your group reaches in Iceland and can be the last place they leave, which makes it equally suited to a full retreat, a working layover, or the opening day of a longer incentive trip. Meeting rooms, the lagoon, the restaurants, and both hotels share one site within the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark, so once your group arrives, nobody moves farther than a few minutes' walk. For a planner, that is the difference between managing logistics and managing an agenda.

What makes Blue Lagoon different from other venues in Iceland?

A few things distinguish Blue Lagoon from every other geothermal venue in Iceland.

Michelin-starred dining at Moss. Moss Restaurant, at The Retreat, holds one Michelin star and serves a tasting menu that changes with the seasons. For an executive dinner or a client celebration, it is the obvious choice for the closing night.

A private lagoon through The Retreat Spa. For groups who want the water away from the main lagoon, The Retreat Spa is a subterranean spa built into the lava, with access to the private Retreat Lagoon. It is the quieter side of the Blue Lagoon experience: the same silica, algae, and minerals, in a setting designed for stillness. Access is limited to Retreat guests only. For an executive group or a small team, the soak happens somewhere calm and uncrowded.

The 20-minute airport transfer. No comparable venue in Iceland is this close to the international airport. That single fact changes what a one-day or half-day program can hold.

The water, and where it sits. A blend of ocean and freshwater born 2,000 meters underground, renewing every 40 hours with no additives, in a lava field inside the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark. Your group is not just meeting somewhere scenic. They are bathing in something that exists in only one place on earth.

How to plan a corporate event at Blue Lagoon: booking, capacity, catering, and transfers

Booking a group at Blue Lagoon runs through a single inquiry, and the practical details are more straightforward than the setting suggests.

Group booking: Send an inquiry through the booking form on our meetings and events page, and we will help you shape the space, dining, and admissions around your group. The more you can tell us up front, the easier it is to build the day you have in mind. Earlier inquiries have more to choose from, and flexible dates widen the options further.

Capacity: Blue Lagoon welcomes groups of all sizes, from a board of directors to a full-company offsite. Between Þorbjörn Hall, the Eldey and Svartsengi rooms, and the Lava Lounge, there is a room to suit most formats, and several can be combined or used as breakout spaces during a longer program. There is no need to wait for a headcount to firm up; an approximate size is enough to start the conversation. Room-by-room capacities are on the meeting and dining rooms overview.

Catering: Catering is prepared fresh on site by our in-house culinary team. Menu options are matched to the shape of your day, and we will go through dietary requirements with you.

Transfers: Regular coach transfers connect Keflavík International Airport, Blue Lagoon, and Reykjavík, with schedules built around the main flight times. A group can travel directly from the terminal to the lagoon and continue on to the city afterward, or do the journey in reverse before the flight home. Groups staying overnight can simply stop here, arriving from the airport and returning to it at the end. Free parking and luggage storage are on site for groups arriving by coach or car. Routes and timetables are accessible on our getting here page.

Staying over: two hotels, one lagoon

Blue Lagoon has two on-site hotels, Silica Hotel and The Retreat Hotel, and both are built for extending the retreat overnight.

Silica Hotel is a four-star hotel with bright and beautifully designed rooms and its own private lagoon, a ten-minute walk from the Blue Lagoon through the lava field. The design is quiet and minimal, and every guest has unlimited use of the Silica Lagoon. For a team offsite where the evenings matter as much as the sessions, it gives the group a private, calm base with the water a few steps from the door.

The Retreat Hotel is the five-star option: suites encircled by the lagoon's waters, with unlimited access to The Retreat Spa and the Retreat Lagoon, Moss Restaurant on-site, and concierge service throughout the stay. Mornings open with a breakfast that sets the pace for everything after it: unhurried and generous. The day moves between meeting rooms and the water without anyone needing a vehicle.

Beyond the boardroom: weddings, incentive trips, and private events

Corporate retreats are one part of a broader events program at Blue Lagoon. The same spaces, kitchens, and hotels host weddings, incentive trips, milestone celebrations, and larger private events. Our team carefully plans these the same way: one inquiry, one site, one point of contact. If your brief is a client hospitality program or an anniversary dinner rather than an offsite, the process described above still applies. The detail in this guide is aimed at the corporate planner, but the venue is not limited to it.

Planning your retreat: what to have ready before you inquire

Before you reach out, three things will speed everything up: your dates (with flexibility noted, since rooms are booked per event), your group size, and the rough shape of your day, meaning how you want to divide time between sessions, the water, and dining. Add dietary requirements and whether the group stays overnight, and we have what we need to start designing the day with you.

For meeting room descriptions and layouts, start with the meeting and dining rooms page. For accommodation detail, see The Retreat Hotel and Silica Hotel. When you are ready, submit an inquiry through the booking form and the team will take it from there.

Why Blue Lagoon is Iceland's premier corporate retreat destination

Every claim in this guide traces back to the day described at the start: land at Keflavík, arrive within 20 minutes, meet in Þorbjörn Hall, soak in geothermal seawater found nowhere else on earth, and sit down to a gourmet meal, with two hotels waiting if the day should become two. No other venue in Iceland puts all of those pieces on one site this close to the airport. That is what makes Blue Lagoon the country's premier corporate retreat destination: a schedule that simply works. Your team steps off the plane, and before you know it the retreat has already begun.
