Blue Lagoon restaurants: A dining guide
Blue Lagoon Iceland is home to four dining venues: Blue Café, Lava Restaurant, Spa Restaurant at the Retreat Spa, and Michelin-starred Moss Restaurant—plus an in-water bar. Minutes from Keflavík Airport on the Reykjanes Peninsula, the lagoon offers everything from grab-and-go sandwiches to seasonal tasting menus. Here is how to make dining part of your visit.
Restaurants at Blue Lagoon Iceland: a dining guide
Dining at Blue Lagoon spans the full range, from a quick sandwich to a Michelin-starred tasting menu. Blue Café offers quick bites and refreshments by the check-in area, Lava Restaurant serves gourmet sit-down meals inside an 800-year-old lava cliff, Spa Restaurant welcomes guests of the Retreat Spa, and Moss Restaurant holds a Michelin star.
There is also the in-water bar, where you can order a refreshment without leaving the warmth of the water, and a bar by the meeting point in the indoor lagoon area offering drinks and light snacks.
Whether you are stopping for a sandwich between soaks or settling in for a full tasting menu, dining is woven into every part of the visit. Here is what each venue offers, and how to make a meal part of your day at the lagoon
Blue Café: quick bites by the lagoon
Located between the check-in counter and Lava Restaurant, Blue Café is the easiest way to refuel before or after your time in the water. The selection is handmade on site every day: sandwiches made from scratch, sushi prepared with quality fish, freshly baked goods, fruit, and Icelandic snacks like our own handmade chocolate. Fresh juices, coffee, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are available all day.
Most of the selection is made to grab and go, perfect if you are heading straight for the lagoon, catching a transfer, or simply setting off for your next adventure. There are also tables and chairs if you would rather sit down for a moment. Open to all guests and no reservation needed; simply stop by whenever hunger strikes.
Lava Restaurant: gourmet dining inside an 800-year-old lava cliff
Built into a volcanic cliff on the shores of the Blue Lagoon, Lava Restaurant serves fresh, local Icelandic cuisine from lunch through dinner. The menu moves with the seasons: a la carte options with fish, meat, and vegan mains, lunch specials, and tasting menus—including a multi-course vegan menu. There is a children's menu too, so no one at the table is an afterthought.
Lava is where a visit becomes a whole experience. Earlier in the day, you can dine in your bathrobe, moving effortlessly between the water and your table. Come evening, the mood shifts toward relaxed fine dining.
Lava Restaurant is open daily, from lunchtime into the evening, see opening hours for details. Open to all guests, whether you have a Blue Lagoon booking or not. If you already have a lagoon or hotel reservation, you can add dining to your booking; restaurant-only guests can reserve a table separately. Booking ahead is recommended, especially for evening tables and high season.
P.S. Keep an eye out for our seasonal packages, which pair a Blue Lagoon ticket with dining at Lava when available. These bundles remain a guest favorite and are the simplest way to turn a visit into a full day.
Spa Restaurant: fresh, light dining at the Retreat Spa
Set within the Retreat Spa, Spa Restaurant is reserved for Retreat Spa guests. This is a calm space overlooking the Retreat Lagoon, where you can dine in your robe during your spa journey. Here, the meal is part of the spa experience rather than a pause from it: light, nourishing dishes served steps from the water.
The menu is gourmet yet effortless: fresh seafood, carefully sourced meats, and vibrant vegan options. There is also a chef's choice of the season, served with paired wines. Breakfast is served in the morning for those beginning their day by the water.
Spa Restaurant is open daily, see opening hours for details. Simply arrive when the moment feels right, before, during, or after your time in the water.
Moss Restaurant: Michelin-starred dining at Blue Lagoon
Moss Restaurant holds a Michelin star, awarded in 2023, making it one of a small number of Michelin-starred restaurants in Iceland. Located at the highest point of the Retreat, it serves a seasonal tasting menu built on Icelandic ingredients and Asian flavors, led by executive chef Aggi Sverrisson—whose London restaurant, Texture, held a Michelin star for ten years.
The tasting menu changes with the seasons, drawing on Iceland's mountains, rivers, and seas. Beneath the dining room, a wine cellar carved into centuries-old lava holds vintages from around the world. The cellar can be visited for a wine tasting, guided by an expert sommelier.
Beyond the dining room, special experiences occasionally await, such as a seat at the kitchen table: dinner with a front-row view of the craft.
Moss is open for dinner on select evenings, see opening hours for details. The dress code is fine casual, though guests are encouraged to embrace their individuality. Reservations are essential and best made well in advance.
A taste of Iceland at the lagoon
Icelandic cuisine is built on what the land and sea provide: fish landed fresh from the surrounding waters, lamb raised in open pastures, langoustine, skyr, and vegetables grown in geothermal greenhouses. Every kitchen at Blue Lagoon works from this foundation, whether that means a skyr cup and freshly baked goods at Blue Café, a seasonal a la carte menu at Lava Restaurant, or a Michelin-starred tasting menu at Moss that reimagines Icelandic ingredients through new perspectives.
For many visitors, a meal here is a first taste of Icelandic food culture. The menus change with the seasons, following the rhythm of what is freshest, so no two visits taste quite the same.
Some of Iceland's finest dining, minutes from the airport
Blue Lagoon sits on the Reykjanes Peninsula, a UNESCO Global Geopark, about 15-20 minutes from Keflavík International Airport and 45-50 minutes from Reykjavík. That makes its restaurants among the most accessible in Iceland: a gourmet lunch at Lava Restaurant fits comfortably into a layover, and a dinner at Moss is an easy evening trip from the capital.
Whether you are starting your journey, ending it, or exploring the region in between, the lagoon's restaurants are a destination in their own right. No soak required, though we highly recommend one.
