Specialized protective barriers have been constructed at Svartsengi, safeguarding Blue Lagoon’s vital infrastructure against potential lava flows. This precautionary measure is based on expert analysis of various volcanic eruption scenarios.

Please note that it is strictly forbidden to walk on the protective barriers, to respect the construction work on site. This ensures the safety of guests and staff, which is our highest priority.

We're located in a beautiful and dynamic region, where we are constantly shaped by nature. While driving to the Blue Lagoon, you'll encounter old, moss-covered lava fields and newer, pitch-black formations against the backdrop of timeless mountains, columns of steam, and the recent protective barriers that surround our sanctuary.

All roads are paved, and our parking lot has plenty of room for all kinds of vehicles, including EVs. After you park, you'll walk for about five minutes to reach the main building. All walkways are wheelchair accessible and both the parking lot and walkways are well maintained all year round.

Furthermore, there is a weather station at our facilities since weather is a deciding factor when it comes to air quality. We can therefore gather relevant, real-time data in collaboration with authorities and experts to assess and monitor the situation and can act accordingly if the need arises. If data suggests that a response is necessary, a team of trained members of staff carry out evacuation plans or implement precautionary measures. Always follow the directions of staff.
