About The Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon holds nine million liters of geothermal seawater, has an average temperature of 37-40°C (98-104°F), covers an area of around 10,000 square meters, and has an average depth of 1.2 meters and a maximum depth of 1.6 meters. The lagoon’s water is sourced directly from the Svartsengi geothermal field and its recirculation interval is 40 hours.
For the past 10 years, Blue Lagoon has been awarded the Blue Flag—one of the world’s most recognized voluntary eco-labels awarded to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators.
