Opened in 2018, the Retreat is an oasis of warmth and wellbeing. Conceived to merge with the volcanic landscape and designed to create a more intimate, more luxurious experience of the Blue Lagoon’s iconic healing water, the multi-award-winning resort brings guests into harmony with the transformative wonders of nature.
The Retreat is in the heart of the Reykjanes UNESCO Geopark on Iceland’s southwest coast. The region is a wonderland of geothermal phenomena, and the terrain is alive with craters, fissures, mud pools, steam vents, hot springs, and endless moss-covered lava fields.
Harmony with nature was the foundation of The Retreat’s design process. The architects were guided by the principle that building and geology should become one, where form, function, and the volcanic earth come together. Engineered for sustainability and built for wellbeing, every dimension of the Retreat highlights the harmonic interplay of nature and design.
The Retreat’s interior design ethos is governed by the concept of timeless sophistication, incorporating colors, materials, textures, and furnishings selected to harmonize with the surrounding landscape. The result is a cocooning experience, where the connection with nature feels both natural and welcome.
When you enter The Retreat, you are welcomed like family; like you belong. Whether confirming your tour bookings, providing recommendations, sharing cultural wisdom, or alerting you to the imminent arrival of the Northern Lights, our hosts are dedicated to ensuring that your Retreat experience is filled with warmth, wonder, and wellbeing.
