Blue Lagoon is formed following the operation of the Svartsengi power plant. People start bathing in the lagoon and notice that it has great effects on the skin.
1987-1995
The first public bathing facilities open, followed by the opening of a special clinic for psoriasis patients. First Blue Lagoon skin care products are launched.

1999-2003
New and improved Blue Lagoon Spa opens and more skin care lines are launched. Blue Lagoon becomes a major hit amongst tourists.
2005-2013
New Blue Lagoon Clinic is opened and Blue Lagoon retail shops opened in various locations. Blue Lagoon has become the single most popular tourist attraction in Iceland.
Blue Lagoon History
The Blue Lagoon was accidentally formed in 1976 during operation at the nearby geothermal power plant. In the years that followed, people began bathe in the unique water and apply the silica mud to their skin. Those with psoriasis noticed an incredible improvement in their condition. Over the years, Blue Lagoon has been innovative in harnessing this gift of nature to develop different spa services and products. Today, Blue Lagoon is recognized as one of the wonders of the world.
