New Research on Blue Lagoon Geothermal Seawater Active Elements Reveals their Anti-aging and Skin Barrier Repair Properties
Blue Lagoon’s research laboratories, in cooperation with research consultant Prof. Jean Krutmann, who is a well-known dermatologist and international expert in Skin Aging Research and Environmental Medicine, have discovered through comprehensive research on the Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater that extracts of its unique components have a powerful action on the skin. The studies focused on screening for active elements in the Blue Lagoon Geothermal Seawater.
Microbial diversity studies based on DNA molecular analysis show that 60% of different bacterial types found in the lagoon are new species. The composition of minerals in the water is very distinct with a very high level of silica. This research program was supported by the Icelandic Technology Development Fund. This research has revealed interesting anti-aging and skin barrier repair properties of the characteristic elements of which the Blue Lagoon contains, namely Blue Lagoon silica, Blue Lagoon coccoid algae and Blue Lagoon filamentous algae.
New anti-aging skin care line based on these research results will be available early next year.
