Practical information
for treatment guests

Here below you will find plenty of good-to-know information about Blue Lagoon Clinic. If you are visiting us as a patient, we recommend that you read this section.

Arrival

You will need to sign in at reception before treatment. You will then have an interview with the nurse, who will discuss your treatment and take your blood pressure. The nurse will also photograph the affected areas (and again at the end of your treatment), in order to track your progress.

Bathing in geothermal seawater

Bathing in geothermal seawater is at the heart of all treatments. You should bathe at least twice a day, for an hour each time. During your session you can gently explore the clinic’s private lagoon or just enjoy floating in the warm water.

You’ll need to shower before entering the lagoon, and algae and mineral shower gel is provided in the shower rooms. We also recommend that you apply the algae and mineral hair conditioner provided, before and after bathing.

Women are advised to wear a two-piece bathing suit so that the whole body can enjoy the effects of the lagoon's active ingredients.

Silica mud

We recommend that you apply silica mud to all areas of psoriasis while bathing. Pots of silica mud are provided next to the lagoon. Simply apply, let it dry for 5–10 minutes and then rinse off in the water.

Relax and keep hydrated

To get the most from bathing, it’s important to completely relax and enjoy the experience. It is also important to drink plenty of water and you’ll find a drinking fountain in the lagoon.

If you start to feel uncomfortable, weak or drained then leave the water and contact the nurse.

UVB light therapy and skincare

After one of your bathing sessions, you’ll shower and go to the UVB light therapy room. There you’ll receive light treatment and use of a light comb and special UVB lights for hands and feet as needed.

Following light therapy, you’ll apply Blue Lagoon mineral moisturizing cream to the whole body and mineral intensive cream on the areas of psoriasis. These creams are both available in shower rooms and are based on Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater's active ingredients: minerals, silica and algae.

Finally, you are recommended to take at least 10 minutes after the treatment to rest, as you can expect to feel tired during the first 4–5 treatments.

There is a specially designed relaxation room, with lounge chairs and a stunning view, for this purpose.

Evaluation and support

At the end of the treatment, you will have another interview with a nurse to evaluate your treatment. We recommended that you continue to use Blue Lagoon skincare products when you get home.

  • Doctor’s examinations take place every other Monday. Appointments are made after consulting with the nurse.
  • Nurses are always available for further interviews, upon request.
  • A dermatologist is available via phone/email as needed.
  • If you need to see a doctor, or require a prescription, you should contact a nurse who will help arrange it.
