Starting the psoriasis treatment

Guests need to sign up at the guest reception before each treatment.

Guests start the treatment with an interview with a nurse where the treatment is discussed, blood pressure taken and pictures of the psoriasis spots taken. Pictures are also taken at the end of the treatment.

The natural psoriasis treatment

Guests shower before entering the lagoon. Guests have access to Blue Lagoon algae & mineral shower gel for hair and body in shower rooms. We recommend that guests apply algae & mineral hair conditioning in the hair before and after bathing. 

Guests bathe twice a day for one hour. It is recommended to apply silica mud on psoriasis spots while bathing in the lagoon. Let it dry for 5-10 minutes and then rinse off. The silica mud is located in special containers by the lagoon. Women are advised to wear a two piece bathing suit and allow the whole body to enjoy the lagoon's active ingredients.

It is important to relax while bathing in the lagoon and drink plenty of water. Drinking water is available by the lagoon. If guests start to feel uncomfortable or drained they should leave the lagoon and contact a nurse.

After bathing, guests shower and then have UVB light therapy, use light comb and special UVB lights for hands and feet as needed.

Finally, guests apply Blue Lagoon mineral moisturizing cream on the body and mineral intensive cream on the psoriasis spots. The creams are available in shower rooms. Blue Lagoon skin care products are based on Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater's active ingredients: minerals, silica and algae.

Guests are advised to rest for 10 minutes after the treatment as they can expect to feel tired during the first 4-5 treatments. Guests are encouraged to use the resting area or living room area.

At the end of the treatment guests have an interview with a nurse where the treatment is evaluated. After completing the treatment it is recommended to continue using Blue Lagoon skin care products at home.

Please note:

Guests have doctor's examination every other Monday. Appointments are made after consulting with a nurse. Nurse is available for an interview upon request.

Dermatologist is available via phone/E-mail as needed.

Guests who need to see a doctor or need a prescription should contact the nurse who will assist with the arrangement.

General information

Silica mud and other Blue Lagoon skin care products are sold at the Clinic's reception, at the Blue Lagoon, at the Blue Lagoon shop at Laugavegi 15 in Reykjavík, and in our online shop.

Spa treatments and massage are available at the Clinic and at the Blue Lagoon. Treatment guests receive 20% discount on spa treatments and massage. To reserve a massage please turn to the personnel at the Clinic or call 420 8832.

During opening hours a nurse or a paramedic is always available for an assistance. Employees at the hotel are on duty 24 hours.

Exercise and outdoor activities are an important part of the treatment. Guests have access to a fitness room and several walking routes are in the nearby area. It is recommended that guests bring warm clothes and good shoes for walking. It is possible to borrow walking sticks at the Clinic and bicycles can also be rented.

TV, VCR and a computer with Internet access is offered in the living room area. Television and Internet access is also available in each room.

Guest are kindly requested to show consideration for other guests who are having treatment.

Guests are encouraged to bring some reading material, laptop or other things to use during their free time. Guest are also advised to bring warm clothes and good shoes for outdoor activites.

Healthy diet has positive effects on the psoriasis treatment. An interview with a nutritionist is offered at the Clinic.

Light refreshments are available at the cafeteria for a nominal price.

Smoking and alcohol consumption is prohibited at the Clinic.

Please turn to our staff if you are interested in renting a car. Scheduled coach services are offered daily between the Blue Lagoon and Reykjavík.

It is possible to bring clothes for laundry for a nominal price.
