What is the Blue Lagoon?
The Blue Lagoon is a pool of geothermal sewater (2/3 saltwater and 1/3 freshwater). The source of the water is as deep as 2000 meters/6000 feet. The seawater is led directly from its natural source to the Blue Lagoon where guests enjoy bathing enveloped in the warm blue water. Blue Lagoon has become one of Iceland's most visited tourist place and is also very popular among Icelandic people. Blue Lagoon manufactures and distributes geothermal skin care products, which all include some or many of the unique ingredients found in Blue Lagoon.

Do you accept foreign currencies?
Yes, we accept USD, GBP, CAD, DKK, NOK, SEK, CHF, JPY, EUR.

Can you take children to the lagoon?
Children eleven years old and younger enter the lagoon free of charge. The depth of the lagoon is 90-140 cm/ 2,9-4,5 ft and therefore it is important to watch children closely. Swim armbands can be borrowed at the indoor lagoon area and it is highly recommended that all children under 10 years use those. Change mats, high chairs, and baby baths can be found in the changing rooms.

Can pregnant women bathe in the lagoon?
Every individual is on his/her own responsibility while bathing in the lagoon. The temperature of the lagoon is between 37-40°C/100-110°F. Many pregnant women bathe in the lagoon but it is important that every woman evaluates her physical condition before entering the lagoon. Some women may find the lagoon too warm so it is important to drink plenty of fresh water and avoid being hungry during the visit. Pregnancy massage that takes place on a mattress in the lagoon is available.

Can Blue Lagoon skin care be used for infants?
The skin is very sensitive at this age and it is recommended to use products specially developed for infants. However, the following Blue Lagoon products are dermatologically, hypoallergenic tested, fragrance and color free and can be used for infants: mineral bath salts, mineral moisturizing cream, mineral intensive cream, silica softening bath and body oil, algae and mineral derm bars.

Is it possible to come closer to the building with handicapped or elderly visitors?
Yes, you can drive straight up to the building. When standing in front of the main path there is a staff entrance on the right side with an automatic gate, which leads to the staff's parking lot. There is a public entrance on the left hand to the staff entrance.

Is it possible to borrow a wheelchair?
Yes, we have a wheelchair at the geothermal spa. Please ask for assistance at the reception.

Can handicapped people bathe in the lagoon?
Yes, handicapped people can bathe in the lagoon. Private toilet with a shower is available. Guests with disabilities get free entry for their assistants. Please ask for further information at the reception.

Can visitors enter the Blue Lagoon without paying the entrance fee?
Yes, guests can enter the spa without bathing in the lagoon. BLUE LAGOON spa shop, restaurant and bistro are on the site. Guests can sit down and enjoy the view of the lagoon from the bistro and restaurant area. It is also possible to go outside and follow the steps up to the observation platform where one can have a view of the lagoon and its unique surroundings.

Do you have lockers for larger luggage?
Yes, we have big lockers for luggage. If no lockers are available, please contact guest reception for an assistance.

Are there any lifeguards at the Blue Lagoon?
All persons employed as lifeguards in Iceland are required by law to attend certified safety courses. Safety among guests is an important part of the operation at the Blue Lagoon. Lifeguards working at the spa have completed first aid training and other safety courses that enable them to respond correctly to emergency situations. There are at least two lifeguards or more on every shift, depending on number of guests. One lifeguard is located at the tower, with a view of the entire bathing area while the other one walks around the bathing area to keep an eye on guests.

What is the lagoon's temperature and how frequently is the seawater in the lagoon renewed?
Transfering a part of the seawater via pipeline towards the Blue Lagoon site allows us to control the temperatures of the Blue Lagoon and keep temperatures at 37-39°C/98-102°F. New water is constantly led into the lagoon and the water is completely renewed in 40 hours. Regular samples from the lagoon show that the water is consistent with the Blue Flag's standards and regulations for natural bathing areas.

What are the Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater's unique natural ingredients?
The Blue Lagoon is two thirds saltwater and one third fresh water. It is also rich in unique natural minerals, as silica mud and blue green algae. See the composition of the water.

How large is the lagoon?
Tthe lagoon itself is 5000 m2 but the ground floor of the facility is 2.700 m2.

What are the changing facilities like?
The changing facilities accommodate 700 guests at a time. The six changing rooms are located on the first and the second floor. The men's and women's changing rooms on the first floor contain 114 lockers, 13 mirrors and five hairdryers each. Two changing rooms for women and two for men are located on the second floor. The larger women's changing room has 126 lockers, 5 mirrors and four hairdryers. Private changing cabinets are also on the second floor. The men's changing room contains 150 lockers, four mirrors and four hairdryers. The smaller changing rooms on the second floor have 106 lockers in the women's room and 100 lockers in the men's changing room. Mirrors and hairdryers are located in the hallway in front of the changing rooms. Private changing cabinets where guests can change in private are also in the locker rooms on the second floor.

When was the formal opening of the spa facility?
The President of Iceland, Mr. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, formally opened the new facilities by the Blue Lagoon on July 15, 1999.

Who is the architect of the spa facility?
Sigríður Sigþórsdóttir, architect, designed the new facilities by the Blue Lagoon. The lava walls of the new facilities are unique to the Blue Lagoon. The walls are made of approximately 60.000 - 70.000 lava pieces.
